Type D Pumps – Design and Features

Type D pumps are centrifugal, horizontally oriented, volute-type, with a horizontal split casing, single-stage, and equipped with a double-suction impeller. At the lower part of the pump casing, there are support feet, as well as suction and discharge nozzles directed in opposite directions, perpendicular to the pump axis. This arrangement of the nozzles and the horizontal casing split allows for assembly, disassembly, and maintenance of the pump without disconnecting the piping or removing the electric motor. Axial thrust is compensated by the double-suction impeller. The rotor is supported by external rolling or sliding bearings, depending on the power rating. Bearings are lubricated with either grease (consistency lubricant) or liquid ring (sump) lubrication using lubrication rings. Shaft sealing is provided by mechanical seals or gland packing, with supply of cooling and sealing liquid.
