Special purpose pumps for Nuclear Power Plant units with VVER-1000 and RBMK type reactors.
Special purpose pumps are used in critical systems of nuclear power plants (NPPs) with VVER-1000 and RBMK reactors, such as:
- Primary circuit make-up and purge system: Ensures maintenance of the required level and purity of the coolant in the primary circuit of the reactor.
- Cooling system: Designed to remove heat from the reactor during normal operation and emergency situations.
- Sprinkler system: Automatic fire extinguishing system designed to protect nuclear power plant equipment and premises from fire.
- Fire extinguishing system: Provides water supply for extinguishing fires in various parts of the nuclear power plant.

Pump design and features
Connection and axial force relief
Special purpose pumps used in these systems have the following characteristics:
- Pump types: centrifugal multistage pumps or double entry impeller pumps.
- Modification: horizontal and vertical modifications for various operating conditions.
- Body material: pump housing is made from forged or cast material to ensure high strength and reliability.
- Pump drive: electric motors of high power and reliability are used as a drive.
- Power transmission from motor shaft to the pump: The shafts of the electric motor and the pump are connected to each other using a gear or flexible plate coupling, which ensures a reliable and stable torque transfer.
- Axial force relief: In most cases, the axial force is relieved by a hydraulic balance wheel. This device reduces the load on the bearings, increasing their service life and increases the overall reliability of the pump.
